«Серебро» за дебют на ралли-рейдах в Дубаи[:en]“Silver” for the Dubai debut

1. Jakub Przygonski / Tom Colsoul (POL/BEL) / MINI John Cooper 4:10.27
2. Vladimir Vasilyev / Konstantin Zhiltsov (RUS / RUS) / MINI Mini One 4:14.35
3. Yasir Hamed Seaidan / Aleksei Kuzmich (KSA / RUS) / Toyota Hilux 4:16.07
4. Martin Prokop / Jan Tomanek (CZE / CZE) / Ford F-150 Evo 4:46.03
5. Mansoor Al Helei / Khalid Al Kendi (ARE / ARE) / Nissan Pick up 4:48.52
6. Thomas Bell / Patrick McMurren (ARE / ARE) / Nissan Navara 4:58.10
7. Shameer Variawa / Zaheer Bodhanya (ARE / ZAF) / Nissan Navara 5:02.22
8. Luke Botha / Gerhardus Schutte (ZAF / ZAF) / Nissan Navara 5:19.28
9. Ahmed Al Sheghawi / L.Lichtleuchter (KSA / FRA) / Toyota Landcruiser 6:14.24
10. Graham Knight / David Watson (FRA / FRA) / Polaris RZR 1000 6:15.21

Следующий этап серии пройдет вновь в Эмиратах 24-29 марта, однако гонка Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge будет значительно отличаться от первых двух по продолжительности – шесть дней и шесть спецучастков пройдут в южной части страны, где расположены самые колоритные песчаные дюны.[:en]Dubai International Baja, the second round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, has finished today in the United Arab Emirates.

The Russian G-Energy team won “silver” medals, losing to the Polish driver Jakub Przygonski only four minutes and eight seconds!

Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov performed in Dubai for the first time and, despite their debut and unfamiliar tracks, managed to secure the second position of the overall standings, although the struggle for it was not easy.

On the first racing day, when the participants reached a circle of 174 kilometers in length, the Russians took a high pace hastily, and an interesting fight with the Polish-Belgian crew began. Jakub Przygonski, a formerly titled motorcycle racer, moved from the cycle standings in 2015 and continued his career in rally raids in cars. Two-time Polish champion in drifting and vice-champion of the world in rally raids in 2017, Przygonski combines skills from all motor sports disciplines known to him in his driving style. It is this background that adds desperation to his style of storming dunes, using a completely unaccustomed behavior for motorists. Nevertheless, thanks to this, Vasilyev’s fight with Przygonski on the first day kept the drivers and fans in good shape, and the gap of just two minutes at the finish said that the crews were going very close.

On the second day the participants started from the same point and the track completely repeated the special stage of the first day. Here Przygonski increased the gap, as well as local drivers who got the feel of the sands and actively began to “snap at their heels”. For a hundred final kilometers the keen struggle was between the crew of Vladimir Vasilyev and Yasir Saiedan from Saudi Arabia. And, as a result, the drivers came almost simultaneously to the finish. On the second day the best time was made by Sheikh Khalid Al-Quassimi, familiar to millions of the rally fans for performances at the FIA WRC rounds, Yasir Saiedan came in second, the third place was left for Jakub Przygonski, and Vladimir Vasilyev finished fourth. As a result, for the sum of two days the drivers are positioned as follows:

1. Jakub Przygonski / Tom Colsoul (POL/BEL) / MINI John Cooper 4:10.27
2. Vladimir Vasilyev / Konstantin Zhiltsov (RUS / RUS) / MINI Mini One 4:14.35
3. Yasir Hamed Seaidan / Aleksei Kuzmich (KSA / RUS) / Toyota Hilux 4:16.07
4. Martin Prokop / Jan Tomanek (CZE / CZE) / Ford F-150 Evo 4:46.03
5. Mansoor Al Helei / Khalid Al Kendi (ARE / ARE) / Nissan Pick up 4:48.52
6. Thomas Bell / Patrick McMurren (ARE / ARE) / Nissan Navara 4:58.10
7. Shameer Variawa / Zaheer Bodhanya (ARE / ZAF) / Nissan Navara 5:02.22
8. Luke Botha / Gerhardus Schutte (ZAF / ZAF) / Nissan Navara 5:19.28
9. Ahmed Al Sheghawi / L.Lichtleuchter (KSA / FRA) / Toyota Landcruiser 6:14.24
10. Graham Knight / David Watson (FRA / FRA) / Polaris RZR 1000 6:15.21

Vladimir Vasilyev, “It was good, the race is short, two dynamic days. The track is not difficult in general. Although there are dunes, they are not heavy, fast-driven and the track is quite high-speed, it needs to be passed dynamically. On the second day we had a fight with the Saudi, and he did not drive to the finish line, but flew. It is necessary to know the features of the route, so as to allow yourself to push so hard. We did not experience any difficulties, we get used to the sand and this race was an excellent preparatory stage for the upcoming rally raid that will be held in the end of March here, in the Emirates”.

The Emirates will host the next series round again on 24-29 March, but the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge will be significantly different from the first two races in duration – six days and six special stages will be held in the southern part of the country, where the most colorful sand dunes are located.
